BYNRIE: Traditional Celtic Music Reimagined on Mandolins
Players from the Minnesota Mandolin Orchestra periodically get together to play traditional Irish dance tunes and airs. Sherry Ladig graciously provides original harmonies to accompany traditional tunes, as well as original work.
We realize that the group is hardly traditional, hence the name BYNRIE — an acronym for Bet You’re Not Really Irish Either.

- Catching up with Daryl at MariceWe visited Daryl, who played with us for years in the Minnesota Mandolin Orchestra 2nd-mandolin section. He’s since retired from MnMO and taken up residency at The Commons on Marice in Eagan, whose staff hosted us for a spirited afternoon of music.
- Saint Pat’s – ish at LyngblomstemWe made another trip to Lyngblomstem to visit Jay and friends. Of course Sherry and Don accompanied us in what might be becoming an annual tradition. Adding to the serendipity, it was Saint Patrick’s Week.
- BYNRIE Plays at Northwoods Memory CareMary booked our visit to the memory-care residents and we made lots of new friends. Deb surprised us, dropping in as a field trip to support all of us, but especially Grant. It wasn’t our strongest performance, but we had a fantastic learning experience leading to an epiphany…. more on that soon.
- Johanna ShoresWe dropped by to see friends at Johanna Shores for an afternoon of music.
- Vivie PlazaWith the explosive growth in MMO membership, Jonathan had a hard time booking Vivie Plaza to perform for Grant’s parents and friends. Forty-ish string players descending upon you is far from a scene from The Birds, but it’s overwhelming without preparation. BYNRIE stepped in, however, and a good time was had by all.
